OLD MEADOWVALE VILLAGE

MISSISSAUGA

Old Meadowvale Village is a community located in the north-western part of Mississsauga (Derry Road West and Second Line). The little village of Meadowvale was established in the early 1820's by Irish Immigrants from the state of New York. The main industry in the village's early years was milling with the Credit River providing power to the Mills. Gooderham and Worts owned a mill and also owned and operated many businesses in the village in the 1860's and 1870's. Many of the homes were built in the mid 19th century and are still standing. In 1974 when the City of Mississauga was incorporated, Meadowvale was the name selected for the new town community, the name was applied to the development a few miles west along Derry Road.

In recognition of its many historical buildings, Meadowvale Village was recognized as Ontario's first Heritage Conservation District in 1980. To reduce trafiic through the village, the Derry Road By-Pass was built in the mid 1990's, located about 1 km north of the Old Derry Road.

According to the Mississauga Data, the growth forecast for the population of Meadowvale Village would see an increase from 26,780 people in 2008 to 32,670 by 2031. The housing units would also see an increase from 7320 Units in 2008 to 9380 units by 2031. This forecast is based on the 2006 Census of Canada results, City of Mississauga Land Supply and Development activity and was prepared by Hemson Consulting Limited.
